A complete blood count measures the number and characteristics of red blood cells (RBC), white blood cells (WBC) and platelets (PLT) in the blood. It plays an important role in detecting anaemia, infection, inflammation and blood disorders. Details such as abnormalities in the shape and size of blood cells are also assessed.
Blood glucose tests are used above all to diagnose and monitor diabetes. Fasting glucose shows short-term glucose control, while the HbA1c test reveals the average blood sugar over the preceding two to three months. These tests are critical for anyone at risk of diabetes.
A lipid profile measures HDL (good cholesterol), LDL (bad cholesterol) and triglyceride levels in the blood. These results are used to assess cardiovascular risk. High LDL can lead to narrowing of the arteries, while a high HDL level is protective for heart health.
Tests such as ALT, AST, ALP and bilirubin show whether the liver is working properly. Liver function tests play an important role in diagnosing and monitoring conditions such as hepatitis, fatty liver and cirrhosis.
Measuring urea and creatinine levels, these tests assess the filtering capacity and overall function of the kidneys. Elevated values can be an early sign of serious conditions such as kidney failure.
These tests assess how the thyroid gland is working by measuring TSH, T3 and T4 hormone levels. They are used for the early diagnosis of thyroid disorders such as hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism.
Urinalysis is performed to assess conditions such as infection, protein leakage, stone formation and kidney disease. The colour and density of the urine and the substances it contains are analysed.
An ECG measures the electrical activity and rhythm of the heart. Rhythm disorders, heart attack and other cardiovascular conditions can be detected with this test.
X-rays are used above all to assess the lungs and the bone structure. Lung infections, tumours, rib fractures and spinal problems can be examined with this method.
This scan images the organs in the abdomen, such as the liver, kidneys, gallbladder and pancreas. Ultrasound is used to detect masses, stones and structural abnormalities in these organs.
Blood tests measure essential vitamin and mineral levels such as vitamin B12, vitamin D, iron and folic acid. Deficiencies can lead to anaemia, fatigue and problems with the immune system.
These tests assess the body’s hormonal balance by measuring sex hormones (oestrogen, testosterone), stress hormones (cortisol) and insulin. They are central to diagnosing hormonal disorders.
An exercise stress test assesses the performance and endurance of the heart during physical activity. Conditions such as narrowed coronary arteries and rhythm disorders can be detected this way.
Mammography is performed for the early detection of breast cancer in women, while the smear test screens for cervical cancer. Both are important screening methods that should be repeated at regular intervals.
This test assesses prostate health in men. A rise in PSA levels may point to conditions such as an enlarged prostate or prostate cancer.
Performed to assess the uterus and ovaries in women, this scan is used to detect cysts, fibroids and structural abnormalities.
Used for a more detailed examination of the prostate in men, this method is an effective tool in diagnosing prostate enlargement and tumours.
A gynaecological examination assesses the general health of the reproductive organs in women and is an important check that should be repeated regularly.
Performed for people at risk of osteoporosis, this test measures bone mineral density to assess the risk of fracture.
These tests are performed to detect whether there is inflammation in the body. Elevated levels can be an early sign of infection or inflammatory disease.
Faecal occult blood testing and endoscopic examinations are used to assess the health of the digestive system. These tests play an important role in diagnosing stomach and bowel conditions.
A small device measures your blood pressure at set intervals over 24 hours. It reveals masked hypertension and fluctuations through the day that a single reading cannot show; it forms part of the cardiovascular assessment in comprehensive check-up programmes.

Regular screening before symptoms appear is the only way to see risks early and act in time.
One patient’s year
I had no complaints at all; I booked my appointment anyway.
All the tests were done and my physician went through the results with me.

With my follow-up plan I am well; my next check is scheduled for next year.
